Biomedical Devices

In the Penn State Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME), we are actively using concepts from engineering and biology to develop novel biomedical devices and biotechnologies that can transform patient care. Leveraging the unparalleled resources at the Materials Research Institute, we are developing lab-on-chip and non-invasive devices for rapid diagnosis, cell separation, and biosensing. Additionally, BME has a long history in artificial heart research, with current work focusing on ventricular assist devices in collaboration with Penn State Hershey.
