Message from the Department Head

Welcome!

I am pleased to report that the department of biomedical engineering is currently undergoing a period of rapid growth and development.

Biomedical engineering department partners with Chinese university to offer global learning experiences

Providing students with collaborative learning experiences and global opportunities has always been a hallmark of the biomedical engineering department, and this semester, six BME seniors were given the opportunity to participate in two global capstone projects - without even leaving the University Park campus.

Enhancing Education, Collaboration, and Research: Biomedical and Chemical Engineering to Open a New Facility in 2019

The biomedical and chemical engineering departments will open the doors of a new facility in 2019, where the two departments will co-locate on the current site of Fenske Laboratory.

Biomedical engineering alumni reunion planned for July 11 and 12

The Biomedical Engineering Alumni Reunion is schedule for July 11 and 12, 2015. The reunion, which will coincide with the Centre County Festival of the Arts, will be held at Tussey Mountain in Boalsburg, PA and University Park. All B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. graduates are invited to attend!

BME hosts guest faculty from Politecnico di Milano

When Keefe Manning, associate professor of biomedical engineering, was planning his sabbatical he knew he was ready for a challenge that would take him outside of the University Park community.

Penn State Biomedical Engineering Society hosts sixth annual Bioengineering Research Symposium

The sixth annual Bioengineering Research Symposium was held April 13, 2015 at the Nittany Lion Inn. Over forty graduate and undergraduate students presented original research during two poster and oral presentation sessions.

Butler named associate dean for education in the College of Engineering

Peter J. Butler, professor of biomedical engineering, has been named associate dean for education in the College of Engineering, effective July 1, 2015.

Butler named AIMBE fellow

Peter Butler, professor of biomedical engineering, has been named a fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE).

BME students take top honors at College of Engineering Research Symposium

Biomedical engineering students recently took top honors at the 12th annual College of Engineering Research Symposium (CERS), held April 2 at the Nittany Lion Inn.

Gordon named student marshal for biomedical engineering

Senior Adam B. Gordon has been selected as the student marshal for the biomedical engineering baccalaureate degree program at the College of Engineering spring commencement ceremony on May 8. Gordon will receive a bachelor of science degree in bioengineering and a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering.

Graduate student shares study abroad experience

Bioengineering Ph.D. student, Keith Mickolajczyk, shares his experience studying abroad at the University of Oxford, Oxford, U.K.

BME students awarded at The College of Engineering's Spring 2015 Design Showcase

Two senior capstone groups within the biomedical engineering department were named winners at The College of Engineering’s Spring 2015 Design Showcase!

Outside of the Classroom

Bioengineering graduate students got together for a number of out of the classroom activities this semester. Their activities included a number of outreach and social events as well as fun and relaxation time.

Bioengineering Graduate Students Receive John C. and Joanne H. Villforth Scholarship

Erin Gaddes and You Jung Kang have been named the 2015 recipients of the John C. and Joanne H. Villforth Scholarship.

Michael Eppihimer OEA

Dr. Michael Eppihimer (M.S. '92 & Ph.D. '95) has been awarded the Outstanding Engineering Alumni (OEA) Award by the College of Engineering. Established in 1966, the OEA Award is the highest honor bestowed by the College of Engineering and recognizes graduates who have reached exceptional levels of professional achievement.
