Senior Adam B. Gordon has been selected as the student marshal for the biomedical engineering baccalaureate degree program at the College of Engineering spring commencement ceremony on May 8. Gordon will receive a bachelor of science degree in bioengineering and a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering.

He has selected Margaret Slattery, assistant professor of biomedical engineering and director of the biomedical engineering undergraduate program, to be his faculty escort at the ceremony.

"Adam is an exceptionally talented student. He has the unique capability to think in a highly analytical and rigorous way while still being very creative and innovative in his ideas,” Slattery stated. Despite his accomplishments, in class and in his research, Adam is a very modest student.”

A native of Fairfax, Virginia, Gordon was the recipient of the President’s Freshman Award, the President Sparks Award, and the Evan Pugh Scholar Award both his junior and senior year. He is also a member of Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society and a Schreyer Honors Scholar.

While attending Penn State, Gordon took part in the undergraduate research project “Vibration Tissue Cutting for Blunt Hollow Needles,” with Penn State Precision Medical Instrument Design Lab, where he helped design, build and program laboratory setup to study effects of vibration on needle insertion. He also took part in the Penn State Civil Engagement Public Speaking Contest in the fall of 2014 in which he placed as a semi-finalist.

Gordon’s internship experience includes positions at GE Healthcare and Siemens.

Following graduation, he plans to join the Engineering Leadership Program at Siemens.

College of Engineering student marshals are selected for their outstanding academic achievement and contributions to engineering student life.
