Penn State BMES Student Chapter Attempts to Grow

The biomedical engineering major at Penn State is becoming more and more popular as the number of prospective students has doubled over the past few years. As a result, the Biomedical Engineering Society attended the Penn State Club Involvement Fair on Jan. 13 in order to recruit new students to join the club. BMES officers created a tri-fold poster and handouts highlighting the events the club hosts. BMES specifically focuses on events that include networking, volunteering, fundraising, and THON.

This year the club hosted several networking events featuring biomedical engineering alumni who are employed with companies such as GE Healthcare and Kimberly-Clark. In addition, BMES has been sending a bi-weekly internship and full time job newsletter to club members. Graduate students are broadening their involvement with the group by speaking to students about their labs and how to get undergraduates interested in doing research. BMES has also brought in experts from Penn State Career Services Center helping students to navigate the career fair and writing effective resumes. By developing professional skills early on, students in BMES will be well prepared for their first job opportunity.
