Student Highlights and Awards

  • Joshua Taylor (Ph.D. candidate with Dr. Manning) and Ramadane Harouaka (Ph.D. candidate with Dr. Zhang), both received the John C. and Joanne H. Villforth Scholarship from the Graduate School.
  • Jeremy Silver, senior, received second-place in the engineering category during the 2013 Undergraduate Exhibition for "Fluid Dynamic Study of the Inlet and Outlet Flows for the Ension Pediatric ECMO System. See the 2013 Undergraduate Exhibition Award Recipients page for additional details.
  • Hetty Nie, senior, received 2nd place in the Health and Life Sciences and honorable mention in the University Libraries Awards for Information Literacy categories during the 2013 Undergraduate Exhibition for "Lipid Coated Biodegradable Nanoparticles for Targeted Delivery".   • Pouria Fattahi, a Chemical Engineering graduate student working with Dr. Abidian, recently received the STAR student award for the Society of Biomaterials and third place with Gloria Kim for Material Visualization Competition at Penn State.
  • Brittany Banik, a Ph.D. candidate with Dr. Brown, received an honor for her research paper at the 10th annual College of Engineering Research Symposium. Her paper was titled "Novel(Poly) Caprolactone (PCL) Scaffold Architecture for Tendon Tissue Engineering Applications."
  • Pouria Fattahi, a Chemical Engineering graduate student working with Dr. Mohammad Abidian, won best presentation award for "Delivery of Chemotherapeutics using Monodisperse PLGA Microspheres Prepared via Electrified Liquid Spraying Technique."   • Sarah Schopman, senior, was a corunner-up for the Joelle Award for Women in Engineering Leadership award.
  • Allison Ranslow, junior, was co-recipient of the WEP Outstanding Facilitator Award. Full details are available from the Penn State News article Women in Engineering Program honors outstanding students.
  • Gloria Kim, Ph.D. candidate with Dr. Abidian's group, won third place for her project entitled "Hybrid Conducting Polymer-Hydrogel Nanofibers for Biosensor Applications" in the Engineering category at the 28th Penn State Annual Graduate Exhibition held on March 22 and 24, 2013.
  • Mustafa Erbakan, graduate student, was part of the second place team in the Dow Sustainability Innovation Student Challenge Award at Penn State. More information regarding this award is availble on the College of Engineering news details for the SISCA award.
  • Kyle Kalchthaler, senior, was part of the team awarded the Johnson and Johnson Rural Health Care Solutions prize. This prize, part of the 2012 Milking the Rhino: Innovative Solutions Showcase, focused on addressing the problem of diabetes in Kenya.   • Ramdane Harouka, Ph.D. candidate with the MINIBio group, has been selected to receive the NASA Pennsylvania Space Grant Consortium fellowship.
