Nanostructure assembled microfluidic chips for cardiovascular biomarker capture and detection


CVD encompasses many conditions (ranging from atherosclerosis to myocardial infarction), and is becoming the main killer in developed countries. It is well documented that some special peptides and proteins in serum play significant pathophysiological roles and are sensitive biomarkers of CVDs. Unfortunately, although there are more than 150 putative CVD biomarker peptides and proteins reported, few of them are used in practical clinical analyses, mainly due to the complexity of the clinical samples and the extreme dynamic range of protein concentrations.


In this project, we will use nanomaterial-integrated microfluidics for sample preparation, biomarker capture and detection.. Integration of nanomaterial and microfluidics will potentially and significantly improve the performances of biomarker enrichment and detection in CVDs.

Data to be Collected

We will design and optimize the materials and the microfluidic chips based on the performance matrices, for example, capture efficiency, enrichment factor, detection limit, detection specificity, speed.


The data will be analyzed using statistical models including Minitab. The final processed data will be plotted with Origin.
